CREATIVE JUICES...for Watercolor
Workshop - 2 Sessions
CREATIVE JUICES...for Watercolor
Dates: 2 sessions October 19 and October 26, 2019
Time: 1:00 - 4:30 Saturday afternoon
Location: 5352 Winslow St., Kelowna, B. C., V1W 4W3
Fee: $125
Goal: Do you ever feel the need to put a bit more excitement into your paintings? Maybe you need to try some techniques that always "do the unexpected". During this workshop we will be experimenting with a little ink, a little rice paper, and even some texture on the paper to help you create a beautiful, truly unique watercolor painting. It is always exciting to try something different and to be stimulated by others who are experimenting too. My goal is to make this workshop fun, to focus on one new tool, paper, paint, or idea each session to get your creative juices flowing! Come join us!
Description: Come and join me in my art studio in Kettle Valley, Kelowna, B.C. The classes are designed to expand your creative ideas so that you are excited to paint! You have to have courage to say to yourself "Let's try that" as we experiment during each session.
In the first session we will be using a gesso mixture to create a textured ground under our watercolor painting and then using ink and watercolor to give our paintings a real unexpected look. In session two we will be painting our watercolor on Masa paper (a Japanese rice paper), and then learning how to mount the MASA paper onto watercolor paper so that it's ready to frame.
FEE: The fee for the two day workshop is $125. Registration is required and commitment is necessary. Space is limited so please email me at [email protected] or call me directly at 778-477-4768 to inquire about openings.
Materials: For this workshop please bring any watercolor paints and brushes you may already have and 140 lb. Arches watercolor paper. The materials list below is only a suggestion...if you are close in colors and brushes just bring that. Just remember to buy artist quality materials, brushes and paper so whatever you try will be a success for years to come!
Please bring...
Day One: October 19
CANVAS:
One 12 x 12 canvas (yes we are going to use our watercolors)
Black India Ink with ink stylus & nib; and any other colors of inks you have. I buy Liquitex and FW inks in lots of colors. I love Burnt Sienna
On Day Two: October 26
PAPER:
-one sheet of watercolor paper sized 16x20 (approximately)
-one sheet of MASA paper (This only comes in one size in single sheets at Opus)
Both Days
BRUSHES:
- A 1 inch chisel watercolor brush (flat with an angle to it); -#8 round watercolor brush; -#2 round watercolor brush. Be sure to buy watercolor brushes that come to a perfect point when wet. Get good brushes.
PAINT: (suggestions....you need some yellows, some reds, and some blues!)
- Aureolin (yellow), Cobalt blue, Raw Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Sap Green, Royal Blue. I prefer Holbien paint colors, but Daniel Smith and Winsor Newton paints are great too . Buy what is on sale, but get good quality paint. You may create something wonderful that you want to keep for years to come! If you already have some paint, then use that! You will need some kind of palate with a lid to keep your paint in as you use it in class.
BACK BOARD:
-One piece of plexi-glass, plywood OR fiberboard (15 x 18") or cut to about 3" bigger than your paper size all around. You will need a sturdy back board to tape your paper to as you paint so that it won't wrinkle and become a hassle for you. If you get plexiglass get it at the hardware store. We will be using the plexi-glass as a painting platform so a "seconds" piece with scratches will be fine. Please don't worry about getting these exact materials. Just be sure to bring paper (both watercolor and MASA), a hard surface to paint on, brushes, and paint, and ink.
ALSO:
Pencil, white eraser, apron (we will be using ink!) and blue painter's tape.
Registration:
Please contact me using the registration button below or at [email protected], or you can call me directly at 778-477-4768 and let me know you are interested. Your space is not guaranteed until payment is received. Space is limited.
Cancellation Policy:
Please email or call if you need to cancel. You will receive a full refund if you cancel at least two weeks before the class. If you cancel closer to the workshop I will offer someone else the opportunity to attend. If your spot can be filled I can refund your fee.
